Farm Resource Improvement Program (FRIP)
This grant aid is being offered by SEEDA and offers a maximum of £25,000 per business. The current round of applications closes at the end of January 2011, but there will be another later in the year.
Eligible Projects Include:
Resource Efficiency
· Heat recovery systems such as heat exchangers, gel coolers, plate coolers ice builders (where separate from the standard bulk milk tank) and similar resource/energy saving equipment. Please note that preference will be given to systems that RE-USE captured heat elsewhere on the holding.
· Energy efficiency projects such as variable speed drives associated with dairy vacuum pumps.
Animal Health and Welfare Practices
· High specification parlour improvements e.g. cluster flushing / auto-dipping systems, as part of a wider herd health improvement plan.
Specialist equipment to significantly improve livestock performance recording and handling, e.g. turning crates, electronic weigh cells to upgrade existing handling facilities and automatic electronic segregation gates. (Please note we will only fund the uplift from a standard single animal crush system which we have set at £485 (excl VAT) based on the cost of an economy crush. This amount will be deducted from the eligible costs). We will not provide funding towards multiple animal systems.
Specialist grooving of existing concrete floors
Specialist resurfacing of parlour flooring e.g. grooving of existing concrete or installation of rubber matting in the parlour
Heat detection systems
Specialised farm computer software and related eligible equipment with direct animal health & welfare benefits
Nutrient Management:
· Slurry distribution kit by way of dribble bars/bandspreader, trailing shoe, open slot shallow injection and deep injection for use with existing tankers or umbilical systems
Mechanical slurry separator systems and nutrient testing kits
Supplementary pieces of equipment to the above slurry application kit by way of macerators and application rate monitors
Global Positioning System (GPS) as part of a nutrient management programme to specifically manage the farms slurries and manures
Roofing for the following existing areas on the farm where it is in accordance with a current nutrient management plan: Slurry stores and Slurry lagoons
Water Resource Management
· Project design
· Purchase and installation of rainwater harvesting equipment
· Recycling and re-use facilities including pumps, filters etc
