Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC)
- 1 Jan 2011
A scheme for businesses to lower carbon use.
A scheme that came into force in April 2010 – it affects agricultural businesses using a lot of electricity, for example indoor pigs, chickens, large greenhouses or dairy farms. The scheme aims to lower carbon use by helping businesses use alternative energy generation methods, the carbon trading system and available tax benefits.
An example of use in agriculture:
A milking shed that uses more than 300kW of electricity per day makes a minor alteration to the system with a capital outlay of £3500. This pays for itself within one year, and provides ongoing significant savings.
The scheme is overseen by the Environment Agency.
